They were in station wagons as well Mustangs but in different power trim. Compressions too high for todays gas unless you build up an 428. Big money unless you piece together a 390 into a 410. Once bit with the torque you'll be glad you built a 410 provided you have good heads and proper cam and intake system.

428 came in the full size Fords and Mercurys 1966 thru 1968 in a 345 hp version and the mid sized Fairlanes and Montegos in 1968 and 1969 in the CJ and SCJ versions and Mustangs and Cougars in 1968 thru 1970 in the CJ and SCJ versions. Never in trucks.

And Tbirds! Also there were over the counter service replacement blocks and replacement engines offered into the 70's. They are a little more difficult to find these days but still a good selection is available. There are two types of 428 blocks. The "A" block has the std crankwebbing and the "C" the triple or "crows feet" crankwebbing. The "A and C" identifiers are sand scratches on the rear of the block that were done at the foundry. G.

And beware of scams out there !! A good percentage of the blocks that are advertised as being 428 blocks are not....there usually guys that have bought a Block from someone else that "said" it was a 428... And then you have guys that are sonic checking some of the 390 blocks...and taking the out to a 428 bore!! and that might be fine depending on what you want to do with it? But idf you ever need a rebuild and need to go the next size over bore..you'll be screwed..because there not enough meat left in the cylinder's to bore anymore!

It took me 2 1/2 years to find a good Original CJ block in my price range ...They are out there.. But the good one's are few and far between....Most of the one's that the major Engine builder's "I wont mention any names" use service blocks and have had to resleeve a couple of hole's in them just to make them right again...and they have very few actual CJ blocks..and when they do they are generally sleeved also..

So the bottom Line is If ya find a block measure the bore and get the Numbers off the block even take some pics of the #s and the Crank saddle's..and get with one of us...Probably G.. That mans got more casting #'s in his head than Carter has liver pills!!

Anyway...Maybe we can help so you dont get screwed?? JMO..

Bear, I saw a 428 CJ in a brand new truck being built for a Supervisor one time. Our plant built trucks on one side and Torino's on the other. Somehow that car motor got put in his truck. When they found it, he was fired.
