stumbling at idle
I am at a loss. First the specs. I am running a 351M with the edlebrock performer package, MSD 6AL, Accel plugs, wires, and supercoil; stock type fuel pump. I recently tuned the motor. 15 deg initial timing.
Now my issue: I am on a road trip pulling a trailer from Kansas to Texas and then on to Washington, DC. At highway speed, she is running like a raped ape, but when at idle it is struggling to stay running. There is no smoke from the exhaust. I am at a loss. each cylinder is getting spark and I have checked all of the (very few) vaccuum connections and they are fine. Any ideas? I am on a severly time constrained schedule. thanks.

I think the problem is solved. It seams that after redoing the intake gasket and all of the other underhood work in prep for my 2000 mile trip I must have gotten some dirt in the carb or something. I then adjusted the carb to compensate. I also dropped in some carb cleaner in the tank. What I believe happened is that the stuff worked and the carb went back to normal with wacky adjustments. I just came in from retuning and it is back to normal.
Oh, any of you that doubt the 351M, I am on a road trip from Manhattan, KS to Granbury, TX on up to Washington, DC and when I wieghed my truck and load it came in at just under 9500lbs. I am pleased to say that with 35" tires and 3.50 gears I was able to cruise comfortably at 70-75 MPH and still get 11MPG. Yes, the truck is not stock and has lots of durability themed goods, but hey it kicks @$$!
