79 F-150 Engine Question
I am new to the site. I have recently bought a 79 F-150 for a complete body off restoration. I have two questions.
1. I am not sure whether to rebuild the 400 in it or swap out for a 460. I think I would like to keep the 400, but what is your opinion on it. I am hoping for 300-350 hp and 350-400lbs torque, is that even possible with the 400 without going wild.
2. I have a crossmember brace on the frame that is in bad shape (rust) is it possible to find that sort of thing anymore, I have looked at Dennis-Carpenter.com w/ no luck. Or is that something i just need to fab myself.
Thanks in adance.
In my opinion, I'd keep the 400 - it can be built up for pretty cheap and will surprise you if it is done right. I just had a 400 built and it dyno'd at 340HP and 460 ft lbs of torque. Refer to this post for specifics: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=404718

Fab a new cross member or get one from a salvage yard.
