Engine Starting Issues

Every once in a while, my '79 F350 Camper Special will refuse to start. As long as the starter is engaged, it will run (generally a short VROOOOM). Once the key is put back to the run position, it dies. Leave it set for a while, and it will start right up. Also, I've been going down the road and it will die. Trying to start it and it's just like what I've already described...... short VROOOOM's. Leave it set a few minutes, and I'm off again. This only happens occasionally, it's by no means a regular occurance.

Any Ideas????

The ignition module has a 'start' and 'run' lead. Your 'start' works all the time. The run works most of the time. Therefore...... Ignition module or intermitant wiring/switch/connectors to module would be the most likely candidate. GL

I had the same problem on a truck I owned about a year and a half ago. Thought for sure it was the ignition module but it ended up only being a bad wire between the coil and the distributor cap.

I agree, it seems like the module, but yes it could also probably be a loose wire to the coil.
