OK....been tryin' to do a rear brake job on my dually for a couple days now, but I can't seem to find this special tool called a locknut socket to remove my rear hubs. I have a similar socket that I used on my '86 4x4, but it will not fit. I have checked Auto Zone, Advanced Auto and my local dealer, but have had no luck. I'd like to buy one to put in the toolbox if they're not too expensive, but borrowing one would be just fine if I could only find one. I guess I could check with one of those traveling tool pros, but I thought I'd ask here first. Where'd you dually guys get yours?

Hi Red
You bring up a very good question. I havn't been on that adventure yet........but I'll give you some thoughts.
1. The Ford part number is 205-282 (T88T-4252A-A), or ST1868-A. You should specify it's for a Dana 80 on a F350.
2. Your MAC or SNAP-ON truck can probably get it for you.
3. I tend to make special tools whenever possible. I'd start with a cheap 3/4" or 1" drive socket of the proper size, and just grind out the tangs for the nut along the edge. Then I still have use of the socket as designed, but with the added function. I have found a source of these large sockets also on Ebay. But that's just me. Hope this helps.
TOG, thanks for the info! Can you double check that number? The information I have shows it as 205-448, but I do show the number ST1868-A you refer to.
I thought about making one too. That thing's pretty big though. I am almost sure I don't have any old sockets that are big enough!

The numbers I gave you came from the Ford service manual on disc for a 2000 F350 dually. It could be wrong I guess.....couldn't say.
I've been able to buy cheap sockets from CarQuest also.....but this may be a local thing. They normally run $8 to $15. Harbor Freight may be another source. I have also seen hub sockets at Oreily's.....as I wasn't needing it then.....I didn't give it much notice. Since, I live around the corner from the store.....I'll check it for you. I'll be back to you.

Ok, Oreily's does carry it. The brand is Performance Tool........P/N W83008.
They refer to it as a 1/2" drive 4 lug Spindle Nut Wrench.......price $16.99.
Thanks, everyone. I feel better-prepared now that I am armed with good part numbers. Gonna begin my search at NAPA tomorrow and hopefully I will have the tool in-hand when I get home.

I went to NAPA and they didn't have one, and they didn't recognize any of those numbers either. I really didn't know what to do next, so I made a few calls and found an aquaintance that had one he said he would loan me. I got to his shop and he looked for it, but could not find it. He called another shop and that guy loaned me his long enough to get the hubs off. Actually, it was not really an exact match, but it was close enough to work. Gonna get my paws on the right thing before I start trying to put all that stuff back together again. As a side note, I called another dealer and gave them the Ford part number just to see if I could get them to sell/order me one. They figured out it was a tool and they said the only person authorized to buy them was the service manager. Go figger. Guess they want you to bring it in and let THEM work on it. Got a few more connections I'm gonna try next though.........
Go on the MAC Tool, SnapOn, Lisle website, and look it up. Then you just need to hook up with the local tool guy, I'm sure he'll have it on the truck. If you can't find the part#, I'm sure he'll know what it is. Use this link, type in the search box: axle nut socket. http://www.mactools.com/SearchResults.aspx
Cornwell has one pictured on their website, but I didn't find anything that looked like what I needed at Mac or Snap-On websites. The Cornwell tool looks like the picture I have off my service CD, but the text says it is for an '03 and newer and it says it the same as Ford P/N 205-448. This takes us back to the 205-282 / 205-448 deal again.........
