You should be able to use 95-01 Explorer or Ranger gauges. There might be a few more years in the Rangers, but I'm not positive on them. I put a 97 Explorer cluster in my 98 Ranger because it did not have a tach on the oem Ranger cluster. Just a plug and play swap...
They are the same? hmm...how come the 97 Ranger dash is different? Then in 98 they changed to the 97 Explorer style...NR Auto doesnt make them in KM/H which is what I'd like since I'm up in Canada. APC doesnt make anything for the Explorer, but they make stuff for the Ranger and it's available in KM/H. Sorry for the questions but I'd like to make sure so I dont order the wrong thing and get stuck with it!
I think the difference in 97 and 98+ was that on the -97 the CEL light was in a position that on the 98+ the Fuel door light is in and the CEL was below it.
No, the only thing you have to check is what that overlay says on the CEL light. On the 97's - the CEL lightbulb is on the left side. On the 98's, the same space is labelled as 'Fuel Door'. So if you put a 98 Explorer overlay on and your CEL comes on, it will not read 'Check Engine', it will read 'Fuel Door'. I use a 98 overlay on mine. It reads Fuel Door if the CEL comes on. Its really no big deal, you just have to know that is actually the bulb for the CEL.
