You need to have a goal for the engine. What are you expecting out of it. If it is a mildly built 300, then yes, a 650cfm carb is too much. If it is more race oriented, then a 650 might not be enough.

For intakes, I would go with offy, unless you want dual carbs, then you only have Clifford.

EFI manifolds work well, and are a big improvement over the log manifold. If your after the most amount of power, then you need headers, peferrably ceramic coated ones.

Also, check the "READ FIRST" posts at the top of the page.

For a Stock or Mild Build your way over doing it.
I've a 600 CFM 1850 Holley on my now 312 I-6 that developes 400 FPT & 300 HP, so that's why I make such a statement.
I'd go Offenhauser, Fenton, Edlbrock for an Intake & Borla, Hedman, etc. for a Header.
Clifford is Way over priced for what it is.

Just Got On The Site I have a '80 F100 I6 A question

Hi All. This is my first truck. I'm very excited about getting it, IT'S LIKE AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!! It's a 1980 F100; I 6 300; a/t; p/s; 69,000 +/- miles on it. Pretty original interior and some fresh paint on the bod and bed. New bed liner, DiamondPlate tool Box. Getting new inner door panels insatlled all at the dealers shop where the purchase was made. Will have to have it shipped out to my home in Central New Jersey from DETROIT! Don't mind though. ANYWAY......What would be some of the vehicles WEAKEST points of construction and operation? Just so I know what I am looking to keep an eye on for the future. ANY (non-obscene ) advise would be greatly appreciated. I have a '59 Chevy BelAir at home now and am abe to comlete MOST repairs on my own and am hoping to be able to do the same with the F100.

Thanks,
Be kind, it's
my first post here.

WOW. That blue typing freaked me the hell out! If your motor only has 60,000 miles on it, if you maintain it well, it will last 300,000. Also you can't blow it up. Your truck will fall apart after hitting a speed bump and the 300 will still be going.

as for a 600 cfm carb, I'd think thats too much carb, but im not sure. The heads dont flow worth crap, so that 600 cfm's wont all be used. I'd get the 390 holley or 500 edlebrock, efi manifolds, and offy or edlebrock intake. After that I'd get the head worked.

600 cfm is the most the carb will flow with the secondaries open, you won't be using the secondaries until you floor it anyway in which case, mine work fine when floored
