Recently i have come into some money and i want to rebuild my 351w motor it has 177,000 on it and it seems to be getting tired. I would like to bore out the motor and do alot of upgrades as it is all stock. What would be a good bore to go to? I have been told that there is also different heads that i should use (more power) I'm not to up to date (lets just say clueless) on motor rebuilds so i'm looking for alot of info. For the motor i'm looking to spend no more than 5k or so. This Bronco is completly stock so i want to lift it up so i can put some 35's-38's on it. So any lift advice would be cool. I took it to the shop and they said i need to flush the transmission because it's fluid is very dark i told them don't touch it cause it will probley fall apart if they did (so i've heard). So i guess this means i better do something with the tranny also. I should say that this i a 93 Bronco Eddie Baur Edition with no rust what so ever. Bought it for 3k 5 months ago should i spend the money on it or wait till it dies? I live in Washington so any shops you can tell me about would help.
Thanks alot,
Ryan
The only reason to bore a motor is if it s needed to clean up the cylinder walls. When you take the motor to the machine shop he will tell you how much it needs to be bored. Boring a motor doesn't really create more power.
Look into gt 40 heads unless you want to go after market. I would suggest buy a book so you will know more about this.http://cgi.ebay.com/How-to-Rebuild-S...QQcmdZViewItem
The biggest tires you want to run with stock axles is 35's.
well if you have 5k to spend figure 2500 for motor and 2500 for tranny and your done. borring the motor will gain some power in conjunction with other add ons. i would suggest some edelbrock aluminum heads, edelbrock truck efi intake and bbk56mm throttle body. go with compcam 35-255-5 it will run on your speed density just fine. any other cam and you will need to upgrade more stuff that gets way expensive. your other option is to find a crate motor with the goods your wanting but those will run ya around 3k starting price. if your dead set on running 38's keep the motor the way it is and do an SAS and regear the front/rear axles. then find a junkyard 351w and slowing start building it in your garage for the day your old one lets loose.
