Going to do some work on the truck tomorrow and 1 of my projects is to shorten the wastegate rod. What size are the 2 nuts or bolts on the back side that you have to remove? I was feelin around while ago and they seem really small. Or is there another way to shorten the rod? I do see the nut for the adjustment on the rod, but have to get at least one end off to make the adjustment.Thought i would get a heads up before day break, might save a trip or 2 to the tool box.
After getting my ICP and wastegate Attenuator replaced my truck is way less powerfull and wont pull but 20lbs of boost with the red line off,12-14 with it hooked up, and the rod is sloppy loose.Thinking this is one of the reasons. Fuel mileage seems to be up about 1mpg too, havent gotten any ICP codes either.9000 miles on the reman now. Sure am tempted to plug the tuner in again , sure is hard to hold back..Guess its just going to be 6637,straight pipe and HPX for now. Going to dump synthetic in it tomorrow too..
Get that wastegate pressure line disconnected and the control rod tightened up and you'll clear up all your problems, IMO. The easy way to reattach the rod, now shortened, is to apply gentle air pressure to the diaphram can, which will push the rod out and allow you to hang it back onto the wastegate lever.
So i take it the easiest way to remove the rod is from the lever, or the canister end? That rod needs to be tight, tight as possible and not loose, and shortened as much as possible?

Yes on all points. Removing the c-clip that hold the rod to the lever is the hardest part. Try not to lose it, but most people do, including me. So go buy a spare before you start. Remove the c-clip and apply your air pressure to the canister and watch the control rod start to push the lever. At that point remove the end of the rod from the lever and adjust it down as short as it will go. Reapply the air pressure to the canister to push the control rod out to the lever and reattach. Install the c-clip. Don't reattach the air line from the engine to the canister, but instead just cap the hose and the canister nipple off. You have now disabled your wastegate and can expect some monster boost if you add more fuel. If you add a LOT of fuel you'll need to get one of those boost fooler valves so you don't get a de-fueling and SES light.
