96 explorer where's the DPFE sensor located?
I'm not much of a gear head, but I hold my own keeping the house & vehicles together. I believe I need to replace the DPFE sensor, and possibly the EGR valve, on a 96 v-8 explorer (CEL w/ "EGR flow insufficient"). I picked up the replacement sensors (the DPFE is the metal version), but I can't find them under the hood to save my life... any help in locating these buggers would be appreciated. thanks.

I agree with David. I have a 1997 5.0L and there is no DPFE. Believe me I looked for hours, dealer finially told me there isn't one. Check your EGR valve with a hand vacuum pump while engine at idle. If the valve opens the engine should almost stall at idle. If it doesn't run rough the valve is not opening. At this point replace the EGR valve.

thanks, guys, I'd already spent hours searching for it. Glad I'm not a complete nimrod (still a partial probably). I'll get my $60 back & start focusing on the EGR valve. Any thoughts on other causes for CEL code P0401?
