75 F250 starting problems

Okay, so my truck all of sudden decided to stop starting. I replaced the cables and the alternator. I can jump the car and it will stay running until I turn it off then there is absolutly no power what so ever. I was thinking maybe the voltage regulator...? Any ideas? Thanks

On my 79 f250 there is a fusible link on the starter solinoid that if I remember correctly is on the wire that leads from the ignition switch and if its fried, it won't turn over. Just an idea, hope it helps.

Sounds exactly like a bad battery or bad connection to me too. This just happened on my wifes SUV the other day. I went jumped it off let it run then killed it, and i wouldn't start again. I took the clamps off and cleaned the posts with a pocket knife. jumped it off again and let it run then killed it, it wouldn't start. So I jumped it off again and drove straight to autozone to have it checked. when i got there i killed and tried to crank it again nothin' doin'. i yanked it out and took it in got my free replacement and put it in and sucker cranked first try!

If you don't think the battery is bad clean then posts real good that may be it. Just take a pocket knife or screw driver and scrape the posts and the inside of the clamp clean and try it to see if works. if there is any corrosion on the connections you can pour some Cola or some baking soda water on the posts and it will clean that off. any way just my 2 cents. i hope you get it running.

When you start your truck, and with a volt meter check the charging voltage at the battery terminals. It seems like your truck is not charging. Probably a bad alternator and / or voltage regulator.

Also check the thick wire running from the alternator to the starter solenoid. You will have to peel off the rubber cover holding the wires together. Check the thick wire ( i think the colors is red or white) for a bad connection. I encountered this wire to come loose where it joins with with the two other wires. Let me know if you need additional information.

Thumbs up Look a the battery

Now, you say it will start with a jump. That tells you that your starter, relay, fusible link, switch are good. The only difference a jump makes is it adds current to your cables, your starting system is still doing the work. If your system is not doing the trick then it must be the battery is weak, or the connections are bad. When you jump, do you ground to the dead trucks chassis or to the Battery ground? If your bypassing the ground battery terminal and hooking your jump ground to another point, the battery cable to the ground point on your truck may have a bad connection. I assume it is hooked to your trucks engine somewhere, not the frame or chassis. Good luck. -Dale

Alright, after replacing the alternator, voltage regulator, cables, and starter solenoid, it came down to being a dead battery! So the truck is running great now, thanks for all the help!

Well, look at the bright side. You now have a spare alternator, voltage regulator, cables and starter solenoid

When checking the charging system, you get a more accurate reading at the large wire on the alternator. Although not wrong, at the battery terminals you have to consider the resistance through the cables.

If the truck alternator is charging, then a check of the battery should of been done.
