Hello, 2000 Mazda/Ranger with an intermittent problem when the left directional is used. Sometimes it will not flash and the indicator lamp glows steady with an acompanying puff of smoke from the steering column. Smoke comes out of the area on top from the hazard switch. I was wondering if anyone has seen this problem?
Sometimes, I can go 2-3 weeks without this ocurring again. I wonder if I should try to replace the flasher unit or maybe the complete directional switch assy.. Any ideas?!!!
This coming weekend I will attempt to replace the burnt out dashlight bulbs and thought maybe I could kill 2 birds.
sounds like the switch inside the colum is dirty, i dont know if it would be better to use compressed air or contact cleaner to clean it up. did you spill something on it?
2000b2500, seeing as how this is a 2000 model, check out program 00B40, you might qualify for a free replcement of your multifunction switch, if it's bad & hasn't already been recalled.
