1976, and she is making noise at low rpm's. Especially while turning, but mostly idling in gear with no strain on wheel. Can I get away with just a pump exchange? It is leaking fluid, along with the gear box, but I can deal with the minor gearbox leak.
I wanna kill the noise!

mine is doing the same thing.if you let it run dry you wont here it anymore but it will be a little harder to steer trust me i know, i still havent pin pointed mine but im sure it is coming from the box
If I put my hand on the pump, I can actually feel it vibrate at different frequencies when someone turns the wheel. I am thinking maybe a bearing on the main shaft?
I am going to try a junkyard replacement soon...

Nope: Doesn't sound like that, Dennis... I had one vehicle sound like that, and it was a 77 Cougar with A/C. I think it (sound) was related to the a/c, actually...Mine has a moaning sound like a dried up pump. Or, if you grew up on a farm, like a dying hydraulic ram on a tractor!
Pitch changes with rpm.
