And most of all , Have Fun!! (which, by the way, I did)
It should be a good time, I think it's better going as friends, because all you have to do is have fun and show her a good time.
My girl was a blind date. But, let me tell you, she was awesome. The best blind date I could ask for. We had fun, good dinner and good times, but she didn't seem to mind me not being able to dance. I really apreciate that, becuase I couldnt dance for crap.
one other tip is have your date wear steel toe boots this way she can still walk by the end of the night after you are done steeping on her toes trying to dance. lol j/k guys seriously the 3 things f150 listed are the key guys they really are.
it depends on what kind of dancing you are talking about. if you are talking about jumping around like a piece of hot welding slag has just rolled into your shorts well your on your own there. . . .now i just run them over, gota go out there and have fun, be loose and enjoy yourself.
Oh man!!! Now THAT's funny!!!!
Me . . . Not on a $50 bet. No more!
...The only time you HAVE to dance is at your own wedding. .
DANG! I was hoping to get out of the dancing part! You mean I gotta dance?
When I first met my fiance, I made the fatal mistake of telling her that I liked going out to night clubs. God what a bonehead move! I had never danced before in my life and here I was in the middle of a nightclub with gyrating people all around me.
I sucked it up, figured the rapidly changing low lighting would provide cover for my 'Elaine' style dancing, and went for it. After the first three songs, your body loosens up and you start 'feeling the groove'.
Now for our wedding...yech...two words that strike fear into every mans heart. . .Dollar Dance. Why do we do this?? Why am I going to pimp myself out for a DOLLAR A DANCE?? I know she's got a lot of female relatives, but damn I'd take the financial hit to avoid doing the Dollar Dance!
Seriously though, loosen up, go with the flow, stay as close to the girl as possible, forget about everyone else around you and try to enjoy yourself!
I don't think what's done on the dancefloor at high school dances is really dancing anymore. It's some sort of watered-down, "watch out for the chaperones", "look how close my butt can get to the floor!", teenage gropefest. It makes me sick... they sometimes show some of it on Mtv and I can't even believe it... when I was that age I still thought boys were icky! In fact, I still do! But if you're worried about looking dumb, you shouldn't be... you can't look much dumber than I did at school dances! I usually made my own dress (not a bad thing on its own, but with my quirky taste... look out!) and did cartwheels and other embarassing (now that I think about it, at the time it seemed cool) things. Never in the middle of the dancefloor, but does that matter? There were a few times I could have looked almost normal (green taffeta halter dress) except for the details (green adidas soccer socks and tennis shoes). So you won't stick out like a sore thumb.
If you want to get better at dancing and have some time and no shame, buy a dance/aerobics video. I'm serious... get good at some moves in one of those (preferably by Mtv or some other younger-generation company) and remember, they're aimed at girls so there are some moves you're not expected to make, like anything twirly. But the basic rhythm concept is there, and a really easy side-to-side bobbing move that fills in time really well. Oh, and while you're dancing, it's okay to stay in one spot (not slow dancing, though). Minimize foot-squashing. Good luck, guys!

Basically, that's pretty much what it was. I just kinda stood there and looked dumb, and tried to "dance" a little, but it obviously didn't work out too well. I don't really care how I looked, as I look back on it now, but I had a good time, and that's all I asked for going into it. At least prom is a couple months away and gives me some time to "practice"
I'm a brutal dancer, slow dancing is alright but anything else is BAD. lol The only time you'll catch me doing anything but slow dancing is after I've got some "social lubrication" in me and even then I'm pretty hesistant to do it.

Why not? We got about $300 for doing that. It was really funny when the first song was over, and some of my older aunts didn't get their turn, so they just kept trying. I think it got stretched out to 3 songs. All of my cousins did it when they got married, except for the last 2. I was the one to restart the "tradition".
I say suck it up and bank the money. It's not that bad.
