Hey everyone,
99.5 F350/7.3, 96000 mi...... I just noticed battery light started flickering this morning at idle. when I accelerate and RPM's come up a little it goes out. Battery or Alternator?
I am pretty sure it just started. Truck run and starts fine. Would appreciate some input. How do I check it to isolate the problem? bcircus
If both of your batteries check out, then have them check the alternator (also free).
I went through this drill last weekend. Both batteries came back bad within 5 mins, so I replaced those ($170 for both) and then they checked the alternator, which came back fine at 14V.
If its a battery, I would replace both with the strongest ones you can find. It takes alot of uuumph to start up that heavy motor.
The voltage regulator on your alternator has 2 wires comming out of it. One is a ground for the battery light in the truck. Over time the voltage regulators grounds out that wire. If you want to check it, when the light starts to flicker pull the regulator plug and if the light goes out then its your regulator. This is if the alternator is putting out the proper voltage/amps which can be checked at your local autoparts store. Mine is a 99 and my light stays on all the time cause of this problem. You can also pull the regulator line and clean off the connectors.
I was told that the batteries have nothing to do with the light comming on in the truck.
