on a previous thread, i discussed a problem i was having with the "service engine soon" light staying on. and the code ( # not known for sure) indicated an insufficient flow/EGR valve. a new EGR valve was installed to no avail. (light still come on after clearing out..) then through this site, suggestions were made that it was probably the DPFE flow sensor. i replaced that and cleared code. it came back on. ( it was mentioned that it might come back on but should/could clear back out on it's own..) my question is,...how long might it take to clear itself out if, in fact, it ever does? and if it doesn't, i guess indicating the problem is still there,) what would be anyone's suggestions of what to do next to fix the problem that might be causing the "service engine soon" light coming/staying on?
thanks.

Dave did you clean all the ports in the intake. the ones on the egr are nortorous for cloging up. I would remove the throttle body and clean all the ports. they are very easy wirh a small drill or something. (carbon clogs them).
the second thing is I always clear the codes on the cpu when the light comes on after the fix reguardless. If you don't have a scanner then just disconnect the neg battery post for 15 min then reinstalll it will clear the codes and start fresh.
i did the battery disconnect and cleared the code after installing the new DPFE sensor, but the light came back on. ( do they sometimes do that and then go back out by themselves??) or do i need to clear it again and see if it comes back? the trouble with taking off the EGR valve, is that the bolts snap off easy, (which happend when i put the new one on..) and i hate it when that happens. but i guess i will and clean the ports, if you think it might take care of the "service engine soon" light for good.

my light is still coming on, even after changing out the EGR valve and another sensor hooked up to it. guess it's probably what one person said about having to clean out some ports on throttle body. i haven't done that yet. need to find someone who i know can do it. not up to doing it myself.
sorry i can't help you out. hope you get to your problem..
