My 06 Super Duty owner's guide has the following paragraph on page 6 regarding vehicle modification data recording:
"Some vehicles are equipped with Powertrain Control Systems that can detect and store information about vehicle modifications that increase horsepower and torque output. This information cannot be erased and will stay in the system's memory even if the modification is removed. When a dealer or repair facility works on your vehicle, it may be necessary for them to access the information in the Powertrain Control System. This information will likely identify if any unauthorized modifications have been made to the system and may be used to determine if repairs will be covered by warranty."
I don't know if this warning was in the 05 or earlier owner's guides so I'm not sure if this is something new for the 06 model. Does anyone out there know for certain if the 06 Super Duty Powertrain Control System does record modification data that cannot be erased? Or is this intended to scare some from doing chips or tuners? Maybe a ford tech will let us know.
