Uplifter Switches

I am in the process of running power to the Fill-Rite fuel transfer pump in the back of my 2005 F250. I was planning on using one of the 30 amp uplifter switches but found out the uplifter circuits are "hot" only when the ignition key is in the run position. My previous understanding was these switches were also hot with the iginition in the accessory position. Any idea why Ford has wired them this way? How hard is it to modify these circuits so they are hot in the accessory position?

Probably because most of the things you would run off them would kill your batteries relatively quickly if the truck wasn't running.

Wow, wish I had thought of that. Let's see, "Super Duty" with two large batteries capable of extended cranking in cold climate. And Ford does have the sense to include an accessory position in the ignition switch. But then again, it's obvious some owners don't have the common sense necessary to properly use owner installed accessories.

Wow... wish I didn't waste the time posting for a putz... Good luck getting answers. Let's run a 30 amp circuit off two batteries and see how long it takes the batteries to run down in the middle of winter out in the middle of nowhere. You first.

Sorry, I didn't intend to be rude. I just was a little taken by your comment considering I have owned a number of ford diesels over the years, and up until now I have always wired accessories directly to the battery positive teminal and used in-line fuses. You are correct though, in that one does need to use good judgement when running accessories with the engine not running. When I purchased the 2005 I really liked the idea of factory installed accessory circuits. I have been running service trucks in Minnesota with numerous accessories. Only time I have had a dead battery was when I got some #2 diesel improperly labeled as winterized. And at that point I could have cranked all night but no battery was going to help with the jelled fuel in the filter. Once again, I apologize for my improper response to your post.
