Sounds kinda like it's starving for fuel. Have you changed the fuel filter? Have you pulled to check for any codes? If not, I'd suggest doing both. Also check the air filter. Too little air could do it as well.
checked air filter. Codes 36,53,85 is all I came up with havent checked fuel pressure yet. kinda thinking it may be fuel filter or pump.but I have another one that had a clogged filter and it didnt drop rpm's. also have a lot of pressure in tank
Kind of strange combination. I don't have 36 listed. Is it 35?
35 - DPFE or EVP above max V of 4.81
53 - TPS above max voltage
85 - Canister purge circuit failure
Did you connect the battery up wrong or switch the cable leads giving someone a jump start? It looks like mulitple circuits got zapped all at once.
The canister purge solenoid is wired from the same + power source as the EGR solenoid. So codes 35 and 85 might be related. But also coming off this same power source is the camshaft position sensor, fuel injectors, IAC valve, MAF sensor and the auto transmission controls. So outside of the O2 sensor, pretty much all the engine EFI control componets are wired off this power source. Since the motor is not really running, I'd check this circuit out first.
Now that you have the codes, disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to clear them. Then see what comes back - these are you'r persitent issues.
As far as fuel pressure, the regulator on the intake manifold is usually mor suspect than a filter or the pump. You can check for pressure at the intake fuel rail. Or also look at the vac line for the regulator at the manifold tree. If it is wet, the regulator is leaking through the diaphragm.
Well thanks for all the input and I changed the filter. but also found the line going to purge cannister had a hole in it. fixed that and the rpm's are doing fine.Have to drive it a while to see if it runs ok.
