79 f150 need new engine

my stock 400 is geting slugish and becoming a money pit so im going to buy a diffrent engine what should i get remember its 4x4

351M and 400 will fit right in with no modifications.

If it were me, I would consider my options first...whats your buget..what are your plans with the truck...those kind of questions...there are a number of engines you could use...since it had a 400 in it I would pick something close in size to that engine....

A 460 would be the simpleest swap, aside from a 351M or another 400. The 460 will bolt up to your transmission, but you will need different motor mounts and accesory brackets
