Engine compartment temps

A little helpfull hint from the Buick community.

You can reduce engine compartment temps and increase flow-through by removing the rubber strip above the firewall that seals the rear of the hood.
** On good weather days mind you ** Just keep it behind your seat and put it back in if you suspect rain....or wrath.

I'm guessing you guys may have already figured this out....so feel free to "bash" this thread if so inclined.

In the limited testing I've done I've found that my underhood temps run within 5-10 degrees of ambient when the vehicle is moving. Does it need to be cooler than that?

Cookie...I have no Idea.
I read a while ago that some of the guys were "complaining" about the open air elements because the temp in the engine bay was soo much warmer than ambient.

I will run that test myself, now i'm curious!

One of the items I data log is AIT when I'm using the Auto Enginuity software and Cookie is right about the 5-10 degrees. In most cases, I see ambient temps while cruising at Interstate speeds and above.

Thanks Heat....I went a little simpler route. I just hung a little digital thermometer probe off my filter.

one of the things you can real-time monitor with the predator tuner is intake air temp... now... with the quick filter mod that sensor is just sitting out in the open under the hood... this is where the temp readings are coming from... i did the zoo dad mod and have found that withing a couple of mins of driving at speed the temp of the air around that intake filter are usually right around ambient... a little higher during daylight hours and sometimes a little BELOW ambient on cool nights... fyi... the "funnel" from my stock air intake that goes from the front of the grill past the driver's side battery and opens where it used to connect to the stock airbox is still there... so... that fresh air being forced into that tube when i am at speed gets dumped right next to the air filter... now... if i could just make a metal shield to block the engine heat from that filter i think i would have the best setup...
