Headlight upgrade
I read alot about adding relays up front near the battery for the headlights to get more power to them.
So this weekend I added the relays and ran new 12 gage wires with Halogen headlights on my 65. I used 30 amp rated fog light relays, I liked them because they have dual output contacts that go to each light. They were the same money as a horn relay that someone here talked about using. The lights look great nice and bright and everything works, high and low beam.
I also took some advice and went with the electronic voltage regulator. That works great too.
Was just wondering if anyone else has used the fog light relays and how well do you think they will hold out?
I was a bit worried about the horn relay because they were designed for intermintant use. The fog light relays were designed for steedy use.
Great upgrades I would reccomend to anyone wanting brighter headlights.
I love this sight allways full of great tips.

He also did an onboard air article that we have up, where you use a York AC compressor for running air tools, inflating tires etc. This guys was pretty smart on figuring out things.
I have often wondered what happened to him.

The 30 amp relays should be fine. 65 watt bulbs x 2 = 130 watts / 12volts = 10.8333
The draw is 10.83 amp so you have over twice capasity but do give them a feel to see if there hot after an extended run.

The headlights I installed have the flat lens and the replacable bulbs. I thought those were called Halogen. I do know this they are very bright. I need to get them adjusted because people have been flashing thier highs at me. When I tap my highs I think they know that there is a differance.

You were right that is a great tech article. I installed mine almost identical but without the fuses. Guess what I will be adding? If anyone is planning this upgrade got to Jowilkers site http://ncfto.org and open the tech articles. This was a very nice well written article that will get the job done right.

NO FUSES!!!! in head lights circuit!! Use circuit breakers! fuses blow once and you drive off the road! Breakers kill light just for a second then go back on thus you make it safely to the shoulder.
Yes flat lens use the H4 bulbs mine came with the Xenon bulbs yes there bright! Comes in handy when towing the race car in Vermont / New Hampshire with deer and moose.
