Are there any options?

My bed on my 64 4x4 styleside looks like it's shot. Are there any options for replacing with another year. Can I go unibody bed? Im trying to study the other posts but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Thanks

Is your bed the 57-60 style with single wall sides, or the 64-6 double wall styleside box ??
If its the earlier type, I believe the bed was unchanged through its run...was used only on the 4X4's in 61-6 years...I have heard that the mounting holes/cross braces are a bit different as the frames changed a bit from year to year, but I am certain others will chime in on this....My friend had a 64 4X4 with the earlier type box....

bigsnow, It's a little hard to follow exactly what you are asking. My first response it to arm yourself with information. Aquire a 1" wide metal measuring tape. The 25 foot ones are a good choice. Start measuring the parts that your are interested in.

Bed sides for the flairside and styleside are different as well as their floors. The uni has a bed but it is part of the whole truck.

Side skins can be cut off and replaced as floors, but require a high degree of skill. I have found the measurements to be simular on bed floors well into the late 80s.

Check it out yourself, and you will have a better idea of what you want to do to your ride.

Your options are limited to a similar 8 foot 57-60 styleside bed or an 8 foot flareside bed. The 8 foot flareside has the higher sides than the 6 1/2 foot and is commonly called stepside, but that is a GM term. If are lucky enough to find a decent donor styleside bed from a 57-60 (also 62 and 63 non unibody, but not 61 as it wasn't available in 61) 2 wheel drive truck, you will most likely be drilling new holes in either the bed or the frame or both. You should also replace the wood block spacers between the frame and the underside of the new bed. I've seen a few 4x4 owners install a flatbed due to the difficulty in finding a decent donor. Some just don't like the appearance of the 57-60 bed since it doesn't match. Other 4x4 owners have opted to modify the wheel openings on each bed side of the more readilly available 8 foot 64-66 styleside bed (128 inch wheel base)to accomadate the shorter 4x4 wheel base (120 inch). This modification involves cutting a larger wheel opening forward of the rear wheels. Do I have you totally confused yet?

OK that must be what I'm seeing around town. A 66 4x4 with a 62 or 63 non unibody bed. I guess it does not look to bad being they don't match. By looking at the galleries, the bed on the 57-60 was the same being a 4x2 or a 4x4? Then it got differant in the 61-66's? how about the difference being a f-100's or the f-250's in the 4x4's? My bed is the single wall. So some are double walled? Just trying to learn. Thanks

The 57-60 styleside bed is single walled and essentially the same for 4x4 and 4x2s. The 64-66 styleside bed is double walled. The 66 F100 4x4 came in the same styleside bed as the non 4x4 64-66s and was available as a long or short bed. The non-matching 57-60 styleside bed was no longer offered on F100s, but was on F250s in 1966. Your 64 F100 4x4 will look better witha 64-66 styleside bed, but if you are looking to keep it original, you will need a 57-60 bed.
