I'm experiencing a low speed vibration from roughly 15-25 MPH and that's it. Everything smoothens out afterwards like normal. I can feel it vibrating from the center of the truck, like a bad tranny mount or bad driveline problem. I ran through 13 pages of searching and read people with similar problems but nobody replied with a cure. Truck is an 01 F250 auto ex-cab 4x4 w/factory LSD. Things I've checked:
U-joints: Looks ok, no play (Greased them via zerk fittings while I was at it) Driveline: In phase Tires: Rotated and balanced. Put my 305/55R-20s on and stock 265/75R-16s on; vibrates with either set. Transmission mount: Looks ok.
This just started happening about a week ago. I'm going to replace the transmission mount this upcoming Tuesday since it's only $25 and can be done easily. If that doesn't help, I'm going to try replacing both the u-joints. Anybody have any suggestion or anybody who has had this problem, what did you do to cure it before I start replacing things 1 by 1 until it's gone?
I have a vidration on my 2000 f250 at the same speeds. This happened after I changed my spacer blocks on the rear differential whet from stock{2inch} to a 4inch blocks. The only thing that I could think of that changed was the angle if the drive line to the center carrier bearing. The blocks are tapered so the differential sets at the proper angle but I have been told that I need to space the carrier bearing down to keep it's angle plane flater to the rest if the drive line, this is what I will try tomarow. Will let you know if this works.

Thanks Fis Teck, I should add my truck's suspension is stock and it has the single piece driveline (No center carrier). The vibration is kind of minor but it just bugs the crap out of me because it wasn't there before.
Hi DavidT....This may be a longshot, but its cheap and worth trying nonetheless. There have been several threads regarding this sort of vibration. Some as recently as a couple of weeks ago. Have you tried putting the truck in 4WD when this vibe starts? If you put it in 4WD and the vibe goes away, you may have a bad front hub outer needle bearing...Some of this sites users who have described similar vibrations initially thought the vibe was coming from the driveline or exhaust systems of their trucks, but were surprised to find out it was the front hub outer needle bearing. I have some notes regarding the bearing part # @ work and can get them to, if after you test the 4WD it looks like you may have a bad bearing...Just let me know
On my '01 I had that and a 70mph vibration. My u-joints seemed fine, but for *****s and grins I changed out both of them on both drive shafts. Now its smooth as silk. When I pulled the cups off of two of them they were rusted and the needle bearings were pretty chewed up. Cheap and easy fix.
Did you install the zerks yourself, or buy the truck used? The reason I ask is that the factory u-joints don't have any grease fittings on them.
For the transmission mount, first I would lay down next to the truck and look at the tranny mount while somebody engages the transmission, holds the brakes and gives it a little gas.
You'll be able to see right away if that's an issue.
Ok guys. Update. This morning I installed new u-joints on the rear driveshaft. Both the front and rear. The truck drives great again. No more vibration anywhere. I initially thought it was the u-joints but upon inspection they were solid. However when I removed the driveshaft from the truck, the front one had a slight play in it. The rear one didn't want to budge at it. The rear u-joint was a pain to remove because the needle bearings were rusted onto the caps (Probably like Austin's u-joints) and they did not want to budge off the joint. So, u-joints solved my vibration problems Thanks to all that replied with suggestion(s) and information.
