1984 2.3 ranger starting problems

1984 2.3 ranger starting problems
we just replaced the head on this engine at the fire station and now it wont start the head came complete over head cam no adustments for valves. We thought we kept all timing marks correct but maybe not on the cam. It turns over but wont start. Any help would be appreciated.
