Question Axle Removal Help needed.

1990 F-150 4x4. I have removed the differential pinion shaft lock bolt and now I am trying to remove the differential pinion shaft....

Should it be pushed out from one side? I have tapped on it and it does not seem to move....Don't want to pound too hard if this is not what I should be doing.

Saturday afternoon....so if no one responds soon I will just watch football...

I take it you have an 8.8, If so and the differential pinion shaft lock bolt did not break and you have all of it then the differential pinion shaft should slip out.

Some times it will slip easier one way or the other but it should come out with very little effort.

How long is the lock bolt you removed? it should be about 2.25" long.

Yup, that's a broken bolt....

I just bought another axle, and still trying to figure out what's the best way to remove the rest.

However any thing over a 1/2" is good in a way as the threads of the bolt only go 1/2" from the bottom of the head.

This means you have a broken floating pin in there. Can you tell if the differential pinion shaft has turned or is it still lined up with the hole? If it is lined up you might try a small magnet on a flex shaft in the bolt hole while wiggling the differential pinion shaft back and forth.
