i own a 1980 bronco. and i found a complete motor (351w) with all the fuel injection equipment on the motor (no ecu's). the motor is off of a 1990 bronco. my bronco has the c-6 tranny. what would i need to get in order to hook this fuel injection up?
thank you for your time
jason
You would need the EEC-IV computer (ECU, ECM, ECA, PCM whatever three-letter name you want to give it) and the wiring harness between the computer and the engine. Assuming the engine is complete with all sensors and electronic components, The rest of the swap should be pretty much mechanical. You will need to figure out the best way to run an air filter and intake duct unless you can get that from the 1990 truck as well. Throttle linkage is also an area of concern since I am fairly certain the carburated models and the EFI models were very different. Sounds like a great swap. Keep us posted if you decide to go ahead with this project.
Oh, don't forget a vacuum source from the intake for the shift regulator on the C6.
i can figure everything out on my own that you listed except for the vacum sorce for the shift regulator on my c6 transmission. how would i do this?
another thing is how many more mpg would you estimate i would gain with the fuel injection? i currently have a two barrel carb that gets 8mpg around town.
The upper intake plenum on the EFI engine has a large vacuum tree that should have a spare port on it even after everything is hooked up. Its between the #4 & 5 runners you can't miss it.
On the fuel mileage, I get on average 12-14 mpg with my 93 EFI 302. Thats running mid-grade, a K&N drop-in air filter, and Bassani shortie headers with 3" stainless single exhaust behind them.
Do you have access to the donor truck? Since you have to get the engine management computer and wiring harness anyways..it might be a good time to swap in the overdrive tranny too.
Depends on where in the production run or how the truck was ordered. The E4OD was being transitioned into the line from the late 80's but didn't become the standard equipment automatic until 1991.
this is a motor only. the person selling it is selling a 351w motor and the intake, fuel rails, injectors, etc. not any wiring harness or ecu's. and i would trade my bronco for for a newer one with all those options (fuel injection, overdrive, etc) if i wanted all that. i just want a more fuel effiecent vehicle. and by putting on a cheap fuel injection kit i would gain this. I also want to keep my c-6. I've NEVER heard one bad comment about it, and it is extemly reliable. i dont do much freeway driving and my plan is to buy a truck to pull my bronco to places to off road. so i just need to know what is entitled in this project and if it will even be smog compliant.
