Question simple question, hopefully

but i can't find the info anywhere. how many bolts hold the bed on in a 93 f150 6' bed? need to get the bed off, and want to be prepared.

also, on a related note, anyone in the south arkansas / north louisiana / east texas area that wants a plastic drop in bedliner for the same 6' bed? i'm planning on getting rid of mine, probabably go with a 'herculiner', as i can do it myself. i hate other people working on my truck...

Well, there are only six bolts that hold the bed to the body. Two at the front by the cab, two in the middle, and two at the rear. I can't remember the size, but think it's about a 1/2" bolt (3/4" wrench).

Don't forget the plug for the rear lights and license plate.
Also the fuel filler hose(s).

I don't know if it holds true for a '93, but a 6' bed on an '80-'86 can have either 6 or 8 bolts. I replaced a 6' bed on an '84. The bed I removed had 8 bolts. The one I replaced it with had only 6. Either will work. Your bed may just have two empty bolt holes, or maybe all frames are drilled for 8. I don't know. If you plan on using a Herculiner, it will cover the empty bolt holes anyway.

Before you do the home liner, read and research the quality. The home brands are one part polyurethane where as Rhino is two part. Line-X is the best with a polyurethane/polyurea blend.

Search around here, a couple guys are dealers of both.

Do your homework and you will get what you pay for.

And also, 6 bolts.

captain p4 ,,,

That would also use six bolts. two near the the cab two near the wheel wells and two near the tail gate.. some models did come equiped with eight bolts.. be sure when replacing that you torque to 40-70 lb-ft or 54-95 N-m

This would also make it easy to replace fuel pumps while the bed is off, wouldn't it? I need to do some work on both the bed and pumps.

blackdragon258 yes. You can get directly to the fuel pumps without dropping the tanks.

Get some friends or a engine lift ir hoists to take the bed off.

Mie had some spacers between the bed and the frame. Watch out for those.

How does a skid loader and some chains sound for hoisting it off?

Pulling the bed requires:

Enough power to lift the bed.
Enough lift to clear the bed over the wheel wells.
Some means of balancing the lifted bed.

the last time I did it I ran two overhead hoists (front and rear) to get the bed up and pushed the truck from under it.

The skid loader should do the trick as long as you can do all of the above. YOu can also acomplish it with the help pf a couple of buddies and a few beers!

when i pulled mine, i just hooked a chain in the front and rear stake pockets on opposite sides, balanced fine. my 88 had 6, but the heads spun out, so i torched them, which was no prob as i put a flatbed anyway. if you replace any of them make sure you use grade 8 bolts on it.

Slow going, three days and two bolts out. This truck has been a plow truck all its life, so you can imagine the rust under this thing. Braker bar and sawzall, and lots of pb blaster.

Any other tips for getting these bolts out? I'm doing this for my dad and the snow season is coming up soon.
