87 B Series Starting Problems
I checked the earthing of one of the cables and it didnt make a difference. I can hear a buzzing noise under the hood after I try starting it, whats up with that? All of my accessories work (Lights, Radio etc) but no start. Any ideas? I'm gonna be pretty happy with myself if I can get this truck going consistently without taking it to the mechanic.
i would check for codes to see before putting any money into the truck. don't know how to do that read the first top posts in the ranger forum and you'll have an idea
first project car i bough was a '79 lincoln mark, and i had the same problem. sounds like you have power to everything but the starter or alt. so i recomend you maybe check the solinoid. (hope i spelt that right) don't worry it's a fairly cheap part. if that don't work clean your battery terminals and connectors.
keep me posted on how it works Arctic!

Felt a little down after that so I got a hammer and lighty tapped the starter. Got inside and turned the key and it started up! High fives were going on inside the garage. I have a feeling I am not off the hook just yet. Is it safe to say the (Bendix?)spring was stuck? The guy I bought it off lived by the ocean and I wonder if that had anything to do with it. (stuck starter/solenoid)
Will this affect me when I drive on the road. By that I mean cutting out on me, etc (it isn't registered yet so I dont have achance to take it out on the roads yet)
By the way great site, lots of great stuff to read. I just bought the Chiltons Vehicle library for the vehicle so that will keep me busy. This is a bit of a learning curve for me but I am enjoying it!
