We have had this problem in the past but it went away after an hour. It is a 2000 Explorer with 4.0L/5 speed Auto
The explorer will operate normally, but will not sustain an idle. I am out of warranty coverage and would like to repair this problem myself.
Any thought's as to what is causing this? My thought was the TPS.
Thanks in advance.
I just replaced my Idle air control valve on an 02 4.6L explorer. I would assume that your explorer has the same part. Mine was making a rattling noise under the hood for the past year that I never noticed. The fix is under $100 and takes only a few minutes. Its worth checking out. You should have already done the regular tune up steps before you try this though.
