At Dennis's request, I'm posting the VIN number of a 1977 F-250 Custom that I took a look at last night. It's F25HRY85120. The truck looks like it's stock, so the VIN should give me some good information. It looks like it has a 351 Cleavland, C-6 tranny. It's in pretty good shape, although it died on me several times when I put it in gear and applied acceleration. Is that a simple fix? It has 72000 original miles; hasn't been driven in the past 2 years; probably not much maintainance done. Looks like it will need new tires, a tune up, etc. He wants $2,650. What do you guys think???
Thanks a ton for the info! The body and engine compartment looks like a 25 year old truck that hasn't had much TLC. Old belts, hoses, etc., and some spotty surface rust. Some rust arount the split rims, and underbelly - but it didn't look too bad. Theres a 2"x2" round hole in the body above the back left turn indicator. The electrical worked fine. There was some play in the steering. The cab is in great condition: not much wear. It has a baddly twisted front fender and a broken windshield. It needs new tires, and it hasn't been registered since 2000. New tabs are in order. The body looked straight. The paint job is original and looked fine for the trucks age. 72,000 original miles. I think $2,650. is steep. What do you think it's worth??
You should check out Evan's gallery (couple of posts back). He picked up truck that looks way better than mine for $50. If the tranny is original expect to do some work within a few years...prices on these trucks seem to be relative.
Yah i don't know about the price. Seems quite high. Me and my friend together have seven 75-79 ford trucks and we have not paid over a grand for them, yet they all still run and are in rather good condition. I'd keep lookin around, usually you can find a good one under $1000.
