Hi all, went to DMV here in AZ., to get the '79 reg. & PA title transfered/new AZ title, got the vin on the door jam (matches the title and decoded correctly), but....they also wanted the one on the frame. I cannot find anything other than the warrenty code under the pass. side door outside of the frame rail and the buck tag on the box (flairside), neither of which has the vin # on it. I did do the search here and have checked the rightside frame rail top at the alt. and continued from rad. support to the tail and did the same on the driver's side, not just under the cab (and every other part of the frame we could get to). Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated! Couple of other things, I have owned this truck since '84, also, the title is clean as in no codes like "out of state" or "reconstructed vehical". It was bought thru a Ford dealership and I am the second (and last!) owner. Thanks in advance for any help you folks can toss my way!
I'm working on getting all the rust off of my 79 F250 2wd truck frame and came across some numbers just in front of the passenger side coil spring bracket. Top part of the frame, not very easy to see if inner fenders are on it. I used a electric grinder and wire wheel on mine.
It won't be easy to find them with the truck together, especially if they didn't stamp them hard. I barely found mine with only the frame still there and no rust.
Thanks guys! And info for anyone else who may do a search...we did find them AFT of the pass. side coil bucket (under the header of course) and as 77bigblock stated, they were not stamped very hard at all. But DMV could read 'em, although they needed a flashlight, and that's what counts. This is on a '79 F-150 4x. Never did find them on the driver's side but the top of our frame rails now shine! Thanks again for the help, we are now good to go!!
I have never found them on my 77 F250. My frame is clean and no rust. I do have a metal plate on the firewall with the numbers on it as well as the door plate. I was planning on re-registering mine at my place in Yuma this year. I hope it is not a problem.
Not necessarily. They can be found anywhere on top of the passenger side frame rail. Usually up on the front half of the frame rail which can put them under the cab also. I have never heard of one being on the back half of the frame but I suppose anything is possible. The guy stamping the frame may have been late getting back from a break and had to run to catch up with a frame on the line.
