can you put a weiand 4 barrel intake on a 78 model 351m that came stock with a 2 barrel. i thought i heard somewhere on here that you couldnt do that because the heads were made for 2 barrels or something like that. if it will work what size carb do you suggest, it's gonna be used mostly street and im thinking of putting a mild cam in it like a comp cams magnum280 with a 2800 stall.
Yes you can put a weiand 4 v intake manifold on with prolly about a 600 cfm carb.
Try looking at summitracing.com or jegs.com for some of there combo deals, to same money and get everything that matches with out the hassle of searching all over.

the heads on a 351m are considered 2v heads because of the size of the intake ports. 4v heads have much larger intake ports (heard someone say you could almost fit a tennis ball in them) and require an intake that will fit these larger ports. this has nothing to do with carb size. any intake listed to fit a stock 351m/400 should be for the 2v heads, and all of them i've seen (aftermarket) will accept a 4v carb. i got the edelbrock performer for my 400, but after seeing the difference in quality between it and the weiand, i'm already regretting it. for some good pics of these differences try TMI's website. http://www.tmeyerinc.com/400Fordpg3.htm
he dynoed a 400 with different intakes and has pics of them sitting side by side.
Hello- Welcome to FTE! I have moved your post to the specialized forum we have here for your question. Check out the list of tech forums we have here. There is a wealth of information and expertise here to help you. There are a number of links in my sig below to help you also. Have fun!
A high stall converter and big cam like that will suck gas like crazy.
sparky69, that site was kind of confusing, which intake manafold performed the best. Most of the time it looked like Edlebrock did the best, but I am alittle tired, amoung other things, so which did better?

i think that the edelbrock did outperform the weiand by a couple of hp, but if you look at the thickness of the carb mounting area you can easily see the difference in quality between them. it worries me that the edelbrock is sooo thin. if (and probably when) this starts to leak air i bet those couple extra hp will be meaningless. i can't see the weiand ever leaking air, or the holley for that matter. it worries me even more because i have to run a 1" spacer between the intake and carb due to linkage reasons. btw i have an older edelbrock streetmaster single plane intake that has a very thick carb mount area, so this must be a recent thing. probably just trying to save $.05 worth of aluminum on each intake they make at the expense of quality. glad to see weiand still has their priorities straight.
The PO of my Edelbrock intake had horrible sealing problems with it. Massive amounts of sillycone around the carb base. What he didn't know was that the manifold had a 1/16" dia pinhole in the casting 1/2" below the carb base. I drilled out the pinhole and sealed it with JB Weld and a blind pop rivet that was formed into place after installation. The repair is so good nobody will notice. Go With a Weiand. The only reason I went with an Edelbrock was that I got the manifold for under $50.
Some other manifold dyno tests a ways back have shown no difference in the Weiand and Edelbrock designs for this engine. Any differences shown in this test are well within the margin of error for the tests.

Not trying to start a edelbrock holley fight, but I thought if you tuned your holley right the 1st time and you stay in one altitude you'd be fine.
At least that's what I've heard from some people, but I've also heard they're a peice of *****. I've heard both for edelbrock parts too.
What if you want somthing kind of inbetween? It wont be a daily driver, but it'll see its fair share of the road, with a engine pushing out around 350-400 HP.
