PO cut the plug off of my block heater cord and I don't really want to buy a new cord from the dealer because of cost. I'd rather just splice one on for little or no cost.
The wire is a flat 3-conductor wire. Does anyone know how to wire a new 3 prong plug onto it?
Does anyone know what the resistance should be. I'm thinking that the po cut it for a better reason than he/she needed a mail plug!
Also, would it matter if it were hooked up backwards so to speak? I figure it sould be easy enough to confirm the center ground, but what about the others, does polarity matter?
Well, I stuck an Amprobe on mine and it draws in the neighborhood of 8 amps so resistance across the heater should be about 15 ohms. The ground wire goes to a little brass tab on the other end that contacts the steel shell of the heater element. Resistance to the truck frame should be less than 1 ohm for the ground lead and infinite from each of the other 2 conductors to vehicle frame.
