Mine didn't go out totally. It got worse over about a 3 week period until it was dying almost everytime I drove it. Almost always started right back up if I turned the key off before restarting. Good luck though
Well...the one i ordered on Ebay didnt arrive on time, so i sent it back for a refund and bought one from the dealer. I put it in and drove a 500 mile trip and had no problems at all! thanks guys...you've done it again
How much from dealer? I paid 158.00 thru auto parts place for mine and they got it thru dealer, this included discount. Reason I ask is should I buy another one for spare at this price?
Well....i still cheated with the prics. Here in Michigan there is a place called Motor City Truck, and they specialize in Ford Trucks. My buddy has an account there for his construction business, so it was $104.99
Well Cool1996, I think you have a pretty unanimous opinion from this forum. The CPS is a problematic device on the 7.3 PSD. As long as you are replacing one, I would pruchase a spare and store it in the glove box. Any price at or near a hundred bucks is usually a good one.
After reading this thread I said to myself "Self, buy a new CPS and install it...and keep the one I take out as a spare." So I read the instructions that were posted earlier in this thread and I see a reference to the engine serial number "375549 (and up)" being the break point between part numbers for the CPS. So I go down to the truck and look on the front of the HPOP for the serial number of the engine...I admit, I am nearly blind...I cannot find a tag with the engine serial number on it, though I find a IH tag on the front of the HPOP which appears to have the part number for the HPOP (1831022C95) on it. I then take the cover, that goes over the fuel filter, off and look around there for the engine serial number - nothing (at least nothing that someone with the vision of Ray Charles can see). What am I missing here, besides my vision? Do I need to look for the block number stamped into the block? I found a reference for that back by the oil filter, but would rather avoid getting under the truck right now. Any advice would be most appreciated! Corneal transplants are not an option at this time!
A OK on the sensor, I have just replaced mine at 274,000 miles, I don't know why but my performance increased a lot. buy the way;what is the best way to get a code reader, mine is 1995 ps.
Well, it happened, and I was UNPREPARED!! What a FOOL I am!!
Yup, my baby puked her CPS yesterday at 126K miles. Fortunately, I was close to home and no big deal.
For those of you reading this thread and have contemplated picking-up a spare.....don't just talk about it AS I DID...JUST DO IT!
I picked-up mine (and a spare) at the local International Dealership (Part # 1825899C93) - $93.00....Or, if you're feeling generous - $215.00 at your local Ford Dealer.

I picked one up on Ebay for $52.00 in the Ford package. I had my truck die at a corner 2-3 months ago and thought about it. Then the other day it bucked on me once briefly.......I told myself "time to get prepared" I will be shortly.
I also looked around for the elusive serial number , can't find it?? Are the two different parts numbers mentioned by chapguy pre/post '99-1/2? I have an '03 7.3
