Unhappy Trailer Lights

Hello: I have a 1997 F150 and I have a problem when I hooked up my new utility trailer the right trailer brake light stays on and left is off but when I hit the brakes the left goes on and right goes off. I have checked the voltage at the flat plug from my truck and wire leading to right hand trailer brake has 12 volts on it until I hit the brakes. I know there should be no voltage on both brake light pins until I hit the brakes... Any ideas to help would be appreciated.. All my truck lights work fine.

Thanks cj1997

Recheck the wiring to ensure that the wires are connected properly to the truck and 4 way connecter and ensure the ground wire is properly grounded.

Mine does the same thing, and I have a buddy that has the problem also. These are all 97 F-150's with the flat plug. I believe that my truck came this way from the factory but I am not sure as I am the second owner. If you find the problem, let me know.

Trailer Lights

I just signed on yesterday for the first time... Thanks for all your quick responses.. Its nice to know you have a place to go and someone cares...

Burgod: I will let you know when and if I get a resolution..

Lance: Thanks for your input.. I will recheck all wiring... I know if I remove the right tail light from the frame of the trailer it goes out so I figured the ground is ok since there is only the positive lead connected to the light. I have also metered the resistance on the flat plug that connects to my truck. There is continuty on all pins and no shorts. I had someone tell me to check the relays under the hood on drivers side.. All fuses and relays marked for trailer seam ok. at least the fuse checks ok with meter.

Thanks again talk to you later. cj1997
