I don't know if you guys are big on rims, but I have a real nice (well used to be) set of CenterLines on my truck. Up here in the winters they put all kinds of junk on the roads and it has really taken a toll on my rims. That along with being parked thru the rain season. They have some pitting and are starting rust on the center caps. I got some stuff from a detailer here. It is the stuff they use on those aluminum Semi-s to keep them shiney. It helps but I still have some white marks and a bit of rust. Any other ideas on how to get my Wheels looking good, aside from buying a new set? All the money I have dumped into the steering and carb issues.... I can't imagine having to buy new rims..ugghhh.
I've used very fine steel wool pads on my old truck. Napa has a good selection. Also, I used Flitz on my jet boat. It is by far the best metal polish made. Try looking for Flitz at the General Store.
You mentioned rust as a problem, so i will assume your rims are steel although i am not sure Centerline makes steel wheels but perhaps they do. If the rust has set in, steel wool can be used to minimize the appearance of rust scale on chrome, but I would not use it on aluminum. If the rims are steel, the steel wool followed by a few coats of regular car wax will do wonders, and the wax will help keep the rust at bay (at least for a while). For aluminum I use a product called WENOL. I have never seen it in part stores, but i pick it up at car shows i attend. I am not sure if they are on the web, but if you can locate some it is great stuff. I like it better than the mothers or never-dull. For quick clean ups i use a mild product from a company called California Customs, that i also pick up at shows. Good luck, and yes, the guys on this site are into good looking wheels. FOMOGO
the wheels are aluminum. I got some cleaner from this guy that runs a detail shop. He says the cleaner is used by semi trucks for cleaning thier tanks and stuff. It works real good but has to be special ordered at $20 a bottle. Ive tried never dull, wenol, and misc. other stuff. This stuff I got from this guy works better than all that stuff. thanks for the input.
For polishing out aluminum (or any metal), I've had my best results with Flitz. It's not cheap, but it works wonders. Good luck getting your rims back in shape. It takes a LOT of elbow grease.
When I drove a tractor-trailer, I used Mother's Mag Wheel polish on all my aluminum and chrome. I found it worked best if you add just a little bit of flour or cornstarch to it on a terry-cloth rag. The rag will turn black very quickly, and you will see results in just a few minutes. I used to buy it at Trak Auto & Napa (any auto part store should have it). Good Luck.
