water pump replacement

Replacing water pump on '94 Bronco with 5.8. When putting in new one one of the bolts snapped off (must of been weak from rust). The only way I know to get it is to take off the timing cover and this leads to my question. Do you have to take harmonic balancer off to remove timing cover? Thought since I'm in there might as well look at timing chain and gears to see if they need replacing (engine has 130K on it). Thanks.

Yes you will have to remove the balancer to get the timing chain cover off. I would look into replacing the timing chain and gears, if you do I would go back with a double roller chain and gears. Don't forget to remove the pan bolts in the bottom of the timing chain cover.
