If you can afford the truck why not buy it? I can say in all honesty that after having had my dually for over a year now, it is waaay more truck than I need. The trailer it pulls for fun carries a Suzuki Samurai, spare parts and tools, and weighs a whopping 5500#. My wife's Land Rover has no problem pulling it. In fact I actually think it's dangerous for an PSD dually to be pulling a 5500# trailer. You forget its back there and drive like it. The're great fun, and once you have it you'll start looking for things to haul or tow. I will say this, the PSD's don't take well to being grocery getters, short trips tend to make these things run like crap, if you buy one your going to have drive it, so start thinking of places you can go that'll be long enough to heat the engine-up really well.
we went shoppin for an expedition for the ole lady and came home w/ a cc dually for me lol cause i can pull 29' camper with family in same vehicle, pull a 23' boat to the shore,i wanna pull em both at same time soon as i figure out how and if its legal.besides im a self employed contractor and can write most of it off so y not?go for it if u can afford it do it you only live once
I don't tow anything and I don't haul anything. I bought my truck because it is one bad ******. Bottom line. I only drive 6 miles to work and back home.
Tow the 3 horses a couple times a month in the summer, rarely in the winter. So - for 7 months of the year, just a daily driver. But, when I need it, I got it.
I guess I could get by with a gasser even a 5.4. I Could get by with out it but it does make life easier. There is really no Maintanance (Changing the oil). and it gets 16 MPG that is better than all but the very lightest duty truck out there. I put 60,000 miles a year so the fuel mileage is of great concern. Got over 212,000 miles on my 01 and it has paid for itself as compaired to the GM products I've owned. I do haul a 10,000# trailer about 5% of the time!!
