the piece of rubber molding on the left side (sitting in cab looking back at rear window) has come off in one big piece. Is it possible to refit thios-or-do i have to purchase an entire new slider window assembly?
Is there a way to prevent this from happening again?..i thought of applying silicone lubricant to the window glass so it slides more easily?
seems as if the window glass was too tight-and as such-pulled the window molding off?
Same thing happened to me. I just stuck it back in, and it's been fine for over a year. If it had come out again, I would have tried to put some adhesive on it, but I think that would be difficult without getting the adhesive elsewhere. Lubing might be a good idea if you could keep it out of the channel so that it wouldn't allow the molding to slip.
Mine came out one day and I got some super glue on the weather strip and put it back in place, then I cleaned the exterior of the sliding window pretty good and then put rain x on it to help it slide better, seems to be working pretty good. The rain x really helped it slide and I only got a little glue on the window which a razor blade easily took care of.
It seems like my trick-or-treat present this year was someone trying to pull off the frame around the rear slider in my '99 XLT. Went through a carwash yesterday, got water in the back on the driver side, looks like they tried to pull it off from both top corners... gonna go by the shop that replaced my windshield last year, and see what they have to say about reseating the whole *#@$#'ing thing.. It's got the wide plastic trim around the whole thing, and the gasket is sticking out in both corners.
tried to push it back down, but it didnt go anywhere..
anybody with a quicker idea, let me know...thanks
Remove the interior trim, Pushout on the glass starting at one corner, make sure rubber is all the way on the glass, place a small diameter rope into the outer channel of the rubber......pain in the A**. You can do it at home but it is a pain. let the windshield people deal with it.
went to the auto glass place this afternoon... really suggested i take it to a dealer...one piece assembly... screws may have come loose... didnt want to mess with it..
and i sold my 88 big bronco ( used to be a fire chiefs truck, the kid I bought it from painted it white, so we just called it O.J... I miss it too sometimes) when i bought this thing.. will stop by the local ford guy tomorrow...see what they have to say...need to get it done i guess before it snows again..
thanks again
Yea it is tough. I used to work for a Ford dealer doing aftermarket installs for AC's, Cruise Controls, etc. Sliders would suck but it was doable. Easier though when you have 2 people.
