Stock down pipe and 3.5 inch diameter pipe from the DP back. Sounds great and I finally got that 2004 turbo to sing to me. The best part is shutting off the engine and the turbo wind down definitely sounds like a jet engine.
Just about everybody at work knew i was looking to redo my exhaust and when I start it up for them it is always the same reaction. The engine starts, rumbles like a big block gasser for a few seconds until the VGT closes, and then it is turbo whine time. They all get a big smile on their face and say, "that is way too cool."

Hog exhaust 4in down pipe, no cat, and the 6 inch diameter tail pipe looks cool, and it sounds like a f-16 from idle to about 2000 rpm, best 600.00 I ever spent I have people all the time asking me what mods were done to my truck for it to sound like that I tell them just the HOG exhaust
It's their aluminized 4" with mandrel bends. I first installed it from the cat back. Deleting the muffler. I like the sound. One of the things that sets it off is the 18" long 5" stainless tip. (Tip purchased separately) This makes for a unique sound. It's not just a tip slipped over existing pipe, I cut about 16" of pipe off. I ran this way for a month or so. It's not too loud. A stock cummins system with no muffler is louder. Recently I've installed the two piece 4" down tube. For this, the forward cat flange is cut off where it flares to 4". This is not a bolt on installation, Best to weld the joints. And the 4" tube from the bend after the turbo does hit the firewall once installed. It hits a weld seem. Only touches in reverse under load. Never the less, this needs to be taken care of. I like the system once installed. And it was price competitive. The system comes with enough pipe and is configurable to run:
* CatBack without muffler
* CatBack with high flow BD muffler
* TurboBack with Cat & high flow BD muffler
* TurboBack with Cat without muffler
* TurboBack without Cat or muffler
I will be selling the never installed BD muffler on Ebay soon. My current configuration lets the turbo sing and has a very nice note when under load.
There were improvements in turbo lag with both the CatBack install and the TurboBack installation. Most noticable turbo lag/seat of the pants performance meter from stock was the CatBack install. Although once the complete system has been installed, there's another noticable power increase and a slight power curve change.
As much as I've learned about this system, even though I like it, I would not buy it again. I would look for a 4" system that's squished where most of them hit the firewall. (I know, that would impede the swirl of the exhaust gasses a bit). I would look for one with a very well defined flange at the turbo. More like the stock flange. I would also prefer a mfgr type flange at the forward end of the cat. That flange flares. It's not 3". It's more like 3 1/2" or a little more. For this downtube, it's a two piece. The joint is too far up. It's right next to the starter. Tough to put a clamp there. The slip joint is good and long so spot wellding did the trick. I would prefer a single tube from the cat back. But that would have to be done at an exhaust shop that can bend 4" pipe. Else you'd have a shipping box that's about 9' long. With the muffler delete, this part becomes a 3 section tube. They have pretty good clamps but are not stainless or zinc plated. Their hangers use many of the stock mounts, but needed a little bit of modification to get things correct. But, once hung, this system does tuck up closer to the underside body of the bed. You don't see the exhaust from the side like you can view the factory system. No muffler hanging down.
I think I noticed the largest EGT cooling from the CatBack installation. Although there is added cooling from putting the larger down tube on. The downtube does not have a bung for an EGT probe, but that can be drilled and welded in any time. PreTurbo EGT cooldown at idle is significantly faster than with the stock downtube.
I get comments all the time on how the turbo sings and how it's not a loud deafening tone under load. But noticable.

Just received my MBRP 4" turbo back system (no cat) this morning. Can't wait to put it on. To bad I have to work tonight. Can I do this in my driveway or do I need a hoist?
You can do this in your driveway, I did mine, you really have to work at getting the stock exhaust out in one piece but it can be done. MBRP 304 cool duals, fit was perfect. I even visited the plant in Huntsville Ontario. Very impresive place. Ô¿Ô
Magnaflow does not have any 304 systems, sorry I see/hear sales people telling customers this all the time, what you got was 436 stainless one step above 409 stainless.
Sawsall off the old system, WD40 the rubber mounts and start the install. If you've never done one before it'll take the average person 2 hours or so. Easy not difficult, wear safety glasses to watch for metal bit's and dirt when you doing it. Have fun!

If this was true, then i guess that the company who i purchased the kit from is going to have some major explaning to do. It says 304, and many other online stores sell the 304 from magna flow also.
4" Hog Stainless, Turbo Back. Lost The Cat!. Big 5" Tip..sounds Great...like A Jet Engine, then Really Roars As The Rpm's Increase.actaully Has The Sound Of A Big V-8 Gasser. I Actually Got My Exhaust Sysytem Before I Got My Truck...delivery Was Delayed About 3 Weeks!

Just installed my mbrp 1/2 hour ago. Doesn't seem a whole lot different at idle, unless you stand by the tail pipe (sounds like a big air leak/lots of air movement). Then I hit the pedal. Whistles like a jet plane at takeoff and then roars. Love it.
Not that I am perfect, but this is my business and hobby at the same time and I stay on top of what the competition is doing etc. They offer 409 and 436 systems. The 436 systems at one time included a 304 muffler, but that was changed a while back from my recollection and the system was all 436. The best way to find out is call Magnaflow, I already went thru their most recent catalog and there are no references to 304, most companies would brag that it was 304 if it was etc.
