Help me remember

how my rear fender braces bolt up? I derusted an primered them a couple of years ago, and I can't remember how they are attached (51 F-1)
I've been working on my rear fenders and both sides had rotted thru where the braces attach. This is where the heavier guage is backing the sheetmetal and has the square mounting hole. Problem is;I can't fab the square hole if I don't even remember where the other end of the brace goes.
I now have a digital camera but didn't when I started on the rebuild. Sometimes I could use something to jog my memory. Or I could just use my memory??

IF it's like the 48-50's, the brace attaches to the bedside thru the bed frame rail just above the indented area where you grease the rear spring shackle.

Anybody else confused by that?

From there it is perpendicular to the bedside straight out to the fender - maybe 3-4" behind the wheel opening.

I can get you a digital pic if needed.

MT, I've flipped my rear shackles. The bed is out side the garage, truck and fenders inside, I'm going outside to have a look.

So MT, are you saying it attaches to a bed bolt?

Yep, '51 - '52, are the same as MT describes. Yep, it's the end crossmember-to-bed-board-and-side-panel-flange bolt. See, it isn't easy to describe! The frame end of the brace fits inside the crossmember rail so it won't turn fore-aft. Anyway, that's how mine were, when I pulled the crumbled mass off...

Here's a quick shot - mine doesn't bolt to a bed bolt, but to the box side thru the bed frame..... oh, well, a thousand words later.........

Aha, the light comes on Thanks fella's.You've been a big help. I can get a measurment of the passenger side before I cut it apart. I'll be sure to put a small weep hole on this inner pieice before I weld it in. No wonder F-1 fenders are so rare with all the water & mud collecters inside!
