I was just looking at a 78 F150 Custom, which come Monday, is going for scrap... The truck is in good shape, the cab corners are bad, the bottom of the drivers side door is a bit rusty, and, the box is a little bad over the drivers side rear wheel. It's all there, except for the rad. and carb. It's got a 351M and a C6, and, I could likley rescue it from the crusher for nothing, and there are enough other trucks of the same era there to get the parts to make it run. I'm thinking I should grab it, the only problem is there are no keys for it(no biggie) and the title is not with it, but, I should be able to find out who the owner was.
Any comments?

YES! Pull the motor and trans plus the following at a minimum and THEN send it for scrap!:
Engine perches
P/S sector
9" rear pumpkin
Front rotors
Rear drums
Those are all your big bucks items.
If you can get it for next to nothing, then it is a simple answer - get the truck - it's worth more in parts than as scrap metal OR it could make a good project truck -
My two-cents!
Evan, you've posted that you have four trucks already. Unless you have a burning need or have the resources to part it out....maybe more fun to figure out how to install a nice turbo on one of those 300's....my $.02.
Well, I recently moved, and, while I still own all four, I only have the 82 here, and, that 78 is in some nice shape... And, in the same yard is an 80 Lincoln Continental with a SWEET running 351W(sounds to have a cam in it too) and a 76 F150 with a 302.... I was thinking along the lines of the Continental engine, and the 76's engine mounts, tranny and driveshaft in the 78... There's also a 77 or so F250 there that I may nab the D-60 from....
I also managed to wrangle a front axle and t-case for the 82 too...

I'd get the truck as long as I had some place to keep it. Nothing wrong with having some extra parts around. Or if anything else, if you had to do some fabricating on one of your good trucks, you could use this beast as a test bed.

And that is no joke. I just figured out that I have three spare alts. The bad news is I bought a new one a month ago because (I did not have a spare. Oops!)
