Guys, I have read all the posts on this subject... I have a 02 PSD (7.3) with Banks Monster Exhaust, billet torque converter, trans command, Six Gun, power elbow, AIS air box, 3.73 gears and 37 16 12.5 tires... I am averaging 10 MPG in both #2 and #3 settings. Yeah I will change my gears to 430s when I get a chance, but I should still be getting better milage.
mileage factors are tricky... the mileage gain to begin with is only slight, no matter what they claim, and if your driving it like a hot rod your mileage is gonna suck... are you romping around in it? are you using any additives/cleaners? are you buying good quality fuel? Is your air cleaner fresh? oil changed? tire pressure? any air leaks to & from turbo? ..... Spark plug wires? distributer cap? cannooter valve? flux capacitor? yada? yada? yada?
you dont buy these mods for fuel economy, you buy them for POWER
I have banks 6 gun stacked on a 60hp bully dog chip with AFE 2 stage cold air intake, 4" turbo back, trans shift kit, 3.73 rearend 2002 F350 crew cab 4x4. I get 10.5 mpg pulling 12,000 lb 5th wheel at 70 to 75 mph at level 4 on 6 gun. Get 16 to 17 mph highway empty and 12 to 14 in town. You should definately get better than 10 mph I would think. When I start losing milage it is allways the big AFE 2 air filter needing to be cleaned. Also it is real easy not to drive normal due to increased power and and the feeling of a hair trigger accelerator. This will definately eat the milage.
i'd be willing to bet that taking off with those tires and low gears really sucks the diesel down. highway you can probably get really good mileage if thats all your doing. stop and go is gonna hurt you really bad!!!!!
I wouldnt be complaining if I got 10mpg, lifted with 37's and 3.73's. Tires and ground clearance make a huge difference in Mileage. I went from a 285/16 Cooper A/T to a 285/16 Cooper S/T and lost 2 mpg. The Tire size was the same, only difference was the tread pattern of the S/T is much more aggressive. Rolling resistence is all i could come up with.
Well guys I do a lot of stop and go. I have not taken it on a trip to gauge the milage difference. I romp on it once in a while, but try to keep my foot off the floor I do however like the gains. I have thought about stacking it. I will check my AIS. As far as leaks I have none. YOu can probably eat dinner off my engine. I keep it in tip top shape, etc. I have not had the speedo recalibrated, but I am off about 8 mph at 70. My air pressure in my tires is good. Thanks for all your feedback. Please keep the posts up with any other ideas.
This may seem strange but my 2000 superduty 6 speed running 37" Open Country MT's gets beetween 14.5-16 city and 18-21 highway. Running Edge Evolution programmer 100hp setting and dual 4" exhaust. One thing I learned to improve mileage is dont lug the engine black smoke rolling out the tailpipe is not running efficiently.
I have 3.73 gears and auto tranny, get 22-23 on highway and 14-15 in town, down around 12 towing a 8k lb. trailer. I keep the speed down but even at 80 mph am getting 20 on hwy. Have several Banks mods but use a DP Tuner chip.
I have a 1999 F250 2wd CC longbed w/ 3.73 gears/ banks sixgun. On level 3 I get 16-17mpg empty, 12-14mpg loaded. On 4 I get 14mpg empty, about 12 loaded. I really don't drive around on 5 or 6 due to $2.75/gal diesel
