HELP! Steering column removal!
The shift collar on my 75 F250 decided to die. Finally have that replaced but now I seem to have another problem(s). The steering shaft now has a lot of axial movement (over an inch I'd guess). My questions are:
1: What part in the steering column takes up the thrust (axial movement) of the steering shaft? Is it the rag joint or is there something else inside the column?
2: If it's something other than the rag joint, how in the heck do I get this column out? I must admit I'm also having quite a time getting the linkage loose from the arm just outside the cab (under the brake booster).
3: Anyone know where I can find an exploded view of this steering column? I have an old Chiltons manual but it's less than useless.
Undo bolts at rag joint
Undo 2-3 bolts at dash
Undo 4 bolts at firewall
Unplug connector
