anyone ever been around an older volvo turbodeisel (straight 6) i know of one waiting to be yanked out of the car and have been debating on whether or not to put it in something...
I owned a 1980 volvo sedan with the straigt 6 diesel. I understand it was a volkswagen truck diesel engine that volvo bought to put in thier cars. Mine had problems from new with the engine, cracked/warped head, but was repaired under warranty. After repair, it ran fine. LOTS & LOTS of low end torque!! If the engine you have has a good service record, I believe it would be great fun in a truck.
It's made by VW based on the 1.6 diesel (4 cyl.), not nearly as reliable though (that's the word on the street anyway). Mostly head gaskets($$$ and hard to find on short notice), but it's an interference motor so remember the TB. Rumor is that Volvo recommended 7500 mile oil change intervals when they sold them and this shortened their lives for those who followed it. If you know about VW diesels it might be an interesting project, but I can't say I would use it. If you don't, either read up or forget about it.
Edit: Curse you srkuck62 , I'm never answering the phone in the middle of a post again.
