1990 7.3l hard starting

1990 7.3l hard starting

I think the fast idle solonid is not working. Whenever I start it I have to give a little throtle for it to fire. The batts. are strong and turns over fast. All NEW Glow plugs. It's might be air gettiing in the return lines. What is the best way to dianose my problem? I don't know how to test the fast idle.

the fast idle solenoid is the conection on the rear of the injector pump I connected a hot wire from the battery to my and tested that the solenoid was working. Ihope this is at least some help.

what should I see when I put a hot wire on solonoid?

When you apply power to the solenid open the throtle, if working the pushrod will advance and hold the throtle open. on cold starts you have to step on the gas to set the fast idle solenoid

I have the same problem.
Does anyone know for sure if the fast idle is connected to the timing advance in any way on cold starts? I just assume they are the same circuit.
When I hot wired it the high idle worked but it still starts hard.

The only way the fast idle and timing advance are conected is that they are both controled by the coolent temp switch. when the coolent temp is below 120 the switch closes and supplys power to the idle selonid and timing advance on the IP Have you checked for power at the idle selonid and timing advance? one thing i have seen on my 89, the wts light turns off about 5 sec early causing a hard start, I watch the volt gage to pop back up befour i start.
