It could be but you need to pull it off and clean it first as well as ensure that the prots are n ot clogged that are in the intake, where the egr goes. Mor often than not it tends to be the DPSE sensor gone bad over the EGR. clean the ports first then reset the cpu and see what happens
That is a black or silver rectangle box by the egr valve. It is a sensor, there are two hoses that come off of it. It is associated with the operation of the EGR.
I got from your pf that you have an '02 F-150, what engine is in there? here's a diagram of the EGR system that'll help you out. http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1223630/i/cuz/IMG_0467.JPG
there are two diff. DPFE sensors, I have the 4.2 in my '02,
apply vacume to the EGR Valve while the engine is idling. If it studders or dies the ports and valve are fine. which oughta be the case with so few miles on it. then it's safe to assume it's prolly the DPFE.
To apply vacume. get a piece of vacume line and put it on the valve, then put the other end somewhere on the intake manifold where there's vacume at idle, or just suck on the end.
If you have a 4.6, you might as well pull off the throttle body, clean the EGR ports and replace your DPFE sensor. 4.6's are bad about clogging with carbon.
EGR codes are pretty popular on here. If you search in here you'll probably find more info than you can imagine.
A few posts up woogs has good advice on checking the system.
Where I live the most common problem is a bad DPFE sensor.
Thanks Guys for the responces, but I had about a foot of water in my house from Rita so I haven't had time to fool with the truck. Things are kinda getting back to normal if you can call it that waiting on the insurance adjustor you never know how much stuff you have till you lose it.
