fuel filters

What am i missing? Why does it appear that changing your fuel filter improves your fuel milage.

Maybe inconsistent fuel delivery causes poor mixture control which means a poor running engine, so more throttle is needed for the same power. IOW, the right fuel pressure whether EFI or carb will allow for the best fuel mixture for economy and power.
