Charging system problems

I have a 1978 F-150 2wd with a 300 c.i. engine. The amp light will flash on and off rapidly while driving, if you pull out the headlight switch it stops. I have installed a new alternator, and voltage regulator, and nothing changed. A voltmeter test read 16 volts at idle. The headlights also flicker or pulsate. I am stumped. Please help. Thanks

Check to be sure the ground to the voltage regulator is solid. Sometimes on old trucks the ground bonding jumpers come loose/break from chassis to body/engine to battery, etc
